How Libya’s Rebels Got Their Cell Service Back

Early on in Libya’s rebellion, dictator Moammar Gadhafi knew what he had to do to nip it in the bud: shut down the country’s cellular and data networks. That clearly didn’t work, but it was remarkably effective in turning the opposition deaf to one another. Then the rebels, with foreign support, figured out how to undo Gadhafi’s signal jamming.
